Veganism is a Spectrum

If you ever thought about veganism, you may also have thought about what is vegan or not. The answer is: It's not always easy.

Okay, do not eat or use resources that are made out of animals or are derived from them. Clothes like belts and shoes often include leather. Tops are often made of wool. Do insects count? Yes, they do. That means honey isn't vegan as well.
But are figs vegan? Figs need wasps to get pollinated, and the wasps need the figs to lay their eggs. It's a mutual relationship in which wasps die inside the fig, which then completely consumes them. So, are figs vegan?

Factors like location of living, wealth, or situational problems can complicate the life of a vegan. Maybe you are traveling on vacation and do not yet have the knowledge to find vegan food, or there is simply no option for it. Maybe you do not feel well and the only thing you can concentrate on at that time is getting well again. That does not mean you are not living vegan. If you try to live vegan most of the time and occasionally dip into vegetarianism it is still a vegan lifestyle. For me, veganism can also be used as the term for describing a plant-based lifestyle, so vegetarianism would also fall under it, but not as "high" as veganism itself. The least you must do is not eat animals.
